The Beginning

The Maltese Beginning
	Filippo Izzo (b.1750) with his brother Guiseppe started the first printing press on the Island and was editor of the first English language newspaper called "Il-Mediterianeo". This newspaper later received the Bishop's "bull" which was a great honour. Filippo married Irene D'Aloisio and the had a son .Gaetano Izzo (b.1776)who married Annunziata Galea daughter of Vincenzo Galea and Girolina Gatt. in Valletta on the 4th November 1801. They had 4 children Vincenzo, Geronima, Filippo and Teresa. Geronima married Franco Dandria in 1834 Filippo married Maria Roquer in 1825 Teresa married Gregorio Bonello in 1836. Vincenzo married Maria Anna Hall daughter of Beniamino Hall and Marianna Clarke on the 28th December 1835. They had 3 children, Filippo , Gaetano and Luigia. Gaetano married Antonia Cali' in 1872. Luigia married Gianillo Steeley in 1872. Filippo married Maria Carmela Agius daughter of Riccardo Agius and Guiseppa Sinerco on the 22nd January 1867. They had a son Guiseppe Izzo.
Joseph	Filippo's son was my grandfather Joseph (Guiseppe) Izzo born in Floriana Malta in the 1868. He spent a large part of his life in the army reaching the rank of WOI. He married Cristina Grech, daughter of Eligio Grech and Paola Cordina, on the 11th January 1892.. Together they had 7 children , all boys. Their names were Carmelo, Walter, Edmund, John, Victor, William and Charles. In the latter part of her life, after my grandfather died (1926) , my grandmother Cristina lived at 64 Rudolph Street Sliema,	Cristina
Carmelo	Carmelo, the eldest lived most of his life in Birzebbugia. He married Seraphine and they had 3 children, Nene, Albert and Josie.
Walter	Walter married Violet and lived in Egypt for a number of years before moving to England where he died. He had one daughter called Lilian .
Eddie	Edmund George was born in December 1898. He emigrated to America in the 1930s. See .( USA Connection).
John	John lived for most of his life in Sliema. He married Inez Darmanin and they had 4 children, Marlene, Joseph, Margaret and Edgar.
Victor	Victor born on 21 Oct 1903 was married to Lillian Tong, and they had 4 children , Joseph, George , Dorothy and Valerie	Lillian Tong (age 17)
William	William who married Lucy Audibert had 6 children Laura, Joseph, Kenneth, Valerie, Walter and Rita. He was awarded the MBE whilst serving in the KOMR during the WW2. He was also a well known Football Referee.
Charles	Charles, the youngest of the seven brothers was an amateur actor and broadcaster. He was married to Winnie Zahra and had 3 children., Joseph, Lillian and Connie.
